- Picture of the Month

Members of the Laboratory of Equipment Design attended this year’s PEMT (Process Engineering and Materials Technology) conference and engaged in a wide range of inspiring technical sessions and exchanges.
As a member of the PEMT board, Prof. Norbert Kockmann chaired and moderated several parts of the conference programme, supporting the dialogue between academia and industry throughout the event.
A key highlight was the fruitful discussion with participants from companies, universities, and our project partners in ENPRO REUNION, focusing on the next steps in the research project and the future of modular plants—particularly with regard to safety concepts and approval processes by authorities. The programme also featured numerous contributions on the application of smart methods, AI, and virtual reality in process engineering, emphasizing the importance of well-structured technical and process data to enable reliable digital tools.
Contributions from our team
- Joint poster (Laboratory of Equipment Design with TU Darmstadt and TU Dresden):
“Data aggregation for energy-efficient operation and accelerated authorisation of modular plants” — illustrating the linkage and collaboration of the different research topics within ENPRO REUNION. - Laura Marsollek (oral presentation):
“Modular Lab-Scale Setup for Monitoring of Crystallization under Vacuum Conditions in a Draft Tube Baffle Crystallizer” - Mathias Schmitz (poster):
“Set-up, automation, and modularization of a lab-scale Karr-type extraction column”
We would like to thank the PEMT community for the great organisation and the open, constructive atmosphere—and we look forward to continuing the discussions and collaborations initiated at the conference.
