January 2025 – Winter School of the AUFBRUCH project

The AUFBRUCH project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the structural change in the Rhineland region, was launched in April 2024.

The first Winter School took place in December 2024, where AUFBRUCH PhD candidates stayed at Haus Overbach in Jülich for two and a half days of interdisciplinary workshops. During the first day, CLIB – Cluster Industrial Biotechnology organized a soft skills workshop for the PhD candidates, where they explored ways to use research data and identified potential topics for patents. The second day was dedicated to the Revier Challenge, where the PhD students adopted different perspectives on the structural change in Elsdorf. On the final day of the Winter School, the results of the Revier Challenge were presented, followed by presentations from the PIs and a paper show of the PhD candidates' initial results.

Overall, the first Winter School encouraged exchange within and between the innovation areas of AUFBRUCH and provided valuable insights into the structural change of the Rhineland region.
