KEEN
Artificial intelligence incubator labs in the process industry
The KEEN project serves to develop new artificial intelligence (AI)-based methods, models and tools to improve the functioning of chemical and biotechnological production processes.
The KEEN platform links 20 users, manufacturers, software developers, and research institutions, with the goal of demonstrating that AI methods and technologies can realize previously unimagined benefits in the chemical and biotechnology industry ecosystem. The full range of possible AI applications from a shared database to a self-optimizing plant is being mapped out.
In the AD working group, the focus is on feature extraction from process data (e.g. in extraction and distillation). Here, AI-based assistance systems based on sensor data and image recognition are developed to support the process control of complex systems, resulting in more efficient plant operation.
Moreover, modern methods (also from the field of artificial intelligence) are applied to improve modular process planning and to support safety analyses by intelligent tools. In this way, the planning and safety analyses of chemical and biotechnological processes are to become smarter and more future capable.
