New publication in Chemical Engineering Journal

We are happy to share that our latest article „Wall Topology Optimization by Additive Manufacturing to Harmonize Porosity in Packed Beds of Monodisperse Beads“, authored by Bastian Oldach, Tobias Grundmann, Moritz Westerheide, Konrad Boettcher, and Norbert Kockmann, has been published in Chemical Engineering Journal.

The subject of the article is how optimized wall topologies affect the porosity distribution and fluid flow in cylindrical packed beds. The proposed approach achieves homogeneous porosity distribution caused by wall patterns derived from the packed beds actual bulk structure. The patterns are fabricated using synergies of 3D Computed Tomography and additive manufacturing. Flow experiments reveal that modified wall topologies lead to narrower residence time distributions and shorter mean residence times at moderate pressure losses.
